The original (2005) edition of Ministering to the Military in Our Midst was revised in late 2007 and early 2008. Updated demographics, reformatted design, improved grapĀhics, new resources, and a chapter on Post Traumatic Stress vastly improved the first manual. The revision team consisted of Johnny Almond (Military Ministries Kingdom Advance Ambassador for the Virginia Baptist Mission Board), Jim Craft (Deputy Chief Information Officer, USMC), Kermit Jones, Jr. (Navy Chaplain [LT] stationed at Quantico), Rob Edwards (2005 team member), Lawrence Greenslit (Senior Navy chaplain [CAPT] stationed at Quantico), Lee Allen (2005 team member) and his wife Pat, Chris Childers (pastor of The Church at Quantico), and Nancy Davis (retired Air Force Colonel) and her husband Paul.
Others contributed to the updating process. Myron Almond (retired CAPT, psychiatrist at Lakeview Center Baptist Health Care in Pensacola) wrote a medical description of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder -- symptoms, causes, prevention, treatment, prognosis, and practical tips on supporting sufferers. Nancy and Paul Davis approached PTSD as a soul wound God can heal and highlighted ways the church can help. The new chapter on Post Traumatic Stress weaves together their work and Myron's. Kay Baber (original team member) provided a list of many new resources. Ben Sprouse (original team member) rewrote chapter 5. Several editorial suggestions made by Bill Sawyer, America's Field Director for Cadence, were incorporated.
The 2005 manual was the product of a team of people who met regularly at the Virginia Baptist Resource Center in Richmond -- to pray, share ideas, and identify and compile resources. The members were:
